The Untapped Power of Questions: The Key to Effective Communication

On January 18th and 19th, 2012 Dr. Craig Dowden presented to Verity’s most senior clients on this topic: The Untapped Power of Questions.

Communication is a powerful and complex issue. It can grease the wheels of the most challenging circumstances or create major problems where none previously existed. We are constantly in search of better ways to share our messages with others and strive to make the best impact possible. Unfortunately, anecdotal and empirical research suggests that we do not capitalize enough on one of the key resources at our disposal and that is asking questions.

This presentation builds an evidence-based business case for the importance of asking questions and discuss ways in which these skills can be integrated into our daily practices. It also examines the reasons why we may not ask more questions and how our psychological hard-wiring may be one of the primary culprits in our struggle. This engaging and informative evening also outlines strategies that leaders can employ to maximize our personal, team, and organizational success.

Dr. Craig Dowden is the Managing Director of Verity Filion’s Ottawa office. He coaches executive teams and specializes in leadership development strategies. He is a regular columnist to the Ottawa Business Journal, and was named one of Ottawa’s Top 40 Under 40 business leaders.
