Bill Laidlaw
Consultant

Bill began his career in education, teaching at Ridley College in St. Catharine’s, Ontario. He then moved into human resources management with such companies as The Bay, Scintrex Inc., Royal Trust, Rogers Communications, Paul Revere Life Insurance and Glaxo Canada.

Following his career in human resources, Bill became Director of Government Relations at GlaxoWellcome Inc., a position he held for 10 years prior to becoming Chief Executive officer of St. John Ambulance in Ontario. In 2003, Bill began his consulting practice, Parkelaw Inc., and served clients such as the Ontario Hospital Association, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Petroleum Products Institute, RX & D and the Canadian Multiple Sclerosis Association. In 2005, Bill became Executive Director of the Ontario Community Newspapers Association, then Executive Director of the Biotechnology Initiative at Toronto’s Mars Centre and, more recently, General Manager of Chicken Farmers of Ontario.

Bill’s volunteer activities have included being Chair and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, President of the Empire Club of Canada, President of the Metropolitan Toronto Lung Association, as well as sitting on the boards of Queensway General Hospital, the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation, the University of Guelph Alumni Association, Canadian Association of Manufacturers and Exporters, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Public Affairs Association of Canada. He currently sits on the board of the School of Management and Economics at the University of Guelph.

Bill’s extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, the not-for-profit sector, as well as his various volunteer and fundraising activities have provided him with useful insights for his career management and coaching work, which he shares to the benefit of his clients.

Bill is a graduate of the University of Guelph where he obtained his Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in History from Queen’s University. In addition to that, Bill has a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Toronto. He is also a Certified Human Resources Professional.
