An Educator, experienced Entrepreneur, published Author, active investment industry participant and committed philanthropist, Paul is a champion of numerous investor education initiatives in academic, regulatory, corporate and non-profit arenas.
Paul is Dean and Industry Professor in Financial Management Services at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario. A former Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, he is a part-time Commissioner at the Ontario Securities Commission where he also serves on the Compensation, Nominating and Governance Committees. He serves on and/or chairs numerous Boards of Directors in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.
A veteran of the Canadian investment industry, Paul was recognized by Investment Executive Magazine in 2000 as Canada’s most influential broker of the year. In 2002 Paul received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for community service, and in 2003 Paul received an Outstanding Teacher Award from the Rotman School of Management, together with an Arbor Award from the University of Toronto.
Paul's investment industry experience spanned two and a half decades, and included 15 years in the role of President, at both start-up and large firms. His more recent role was that of CEO of Charles Schwab Canada, acquired in 2002 by Scotiabank. At Schwab he led the development of "full-choice" brokerage, integrating self- managed brokerage service with advice offerings and discretionary portfolio management. He also served as a Governor for the Toronto Stock Exchange and as a Director for the Investment Dealers Association.
